Top 5 Family-Friendly Mississauga Neighbourhoods

Mississauga has long been a popular choice for many moving to the GTA. It has become the second most populated city in the Greater Toronto Area and third in all of Ontario. Along the shores of Lake Ontario, with close proximity to Toronto Pearson Airport and incredible dining, shopping and entertainment options, Mississauga is a beautiful place to call home. If you’re considering moving to the area, these five family-friendly Mississauga neighbourhoods are all excellent choices.

Streetsville

Streetsville is a picture-perfect postcard neighbourhood with historic brick homes and lush green spaces. Nicknamed ‘Village in the City’ by its residents, the area is close to every amenity but still has a small-town charm and sense of community.

The downtown strip along Main St. has local shops, eateries, and charming bungalows. Village Square hosts events throughout the year and is home to Murphy’s Ice Cream Parlour (famous among Streetsville residents). The city hosts the Bread and Honey Festival every year, offering live performances, carnival rides, food vendors, and a beer garden.

This neighbourhood is perfect if you like to get out and enjoy nature. Streetsville Memorial Park is an incredible space with stunning views of Credit River, and Meadow Green is packed with amenities, including tennis courts, a kid’s playground, and a baseball diamond. You can also head to Vic Johnston Arena for skating and the Streetsville Pool for swimming.

Schools in the area are highly ranked, with public, private, and catholic options. Streetsville Secondary School has an excellent reputation, with a large student population and a French Immersion option.

Clarkson

Clarkson is an up-and-coming neighbourhood with new developments, businesses, and restaurants popping up. There is a strong sense of community, with many local events hosted each year, such as Christmas in the Village. With a Go Station, commuting to both Oakville and Toronto is easy.

You’ll find some luxury homes in this neighbourhood along the Lakeshore, as well as two-story family homes, bungalows, and townhomes in the Northern pockets.

Clarkson is home to the Rattray Marsh Conservation Area, which offers families a chance to immerse themselves in nature with options for hiking and birdwatching. Jack Darling Memorial Park sits on the shores of Lake Ontario with a kid’s playground, splash pad, dog park and picnic areas. Residents of Clarkson can also visit the Clarkson Community Centre, which offers an ice arena, large gymnasium, public library, multi-purpose meeting room, and an outdoor kids’ splash pad.

You’ll find great dining options such as Capra’s Kitchen, owned and operated by celebrity chef Massimo Capra. The Clarkson Village Shopping Centre is home to an array of shops and services, with every amenity close at hand.

Schools in the area are among some of the most highly rated in the GTA. You can find the perfect school for your family with public, private, Catholic, French Immersion, and Montessori options.

Lorne Park

Lorne Park is an affluent community with wide, tree-lined streets and magnificent luxury homes. With the average home price around the $2M mark, this is one of the most exclusive areas in Mississauga. Many properties are near the water, with nice-sized lots and historic homes.

Mississauga Golf and Country Club is in the neighbourhood for those who like to hit the links. Lorne Park Rd boasts an array of shopping and dining options. You’ll find an abundance of parks and green space in the area, including South Lorne Park, Richard’s Memorial Park, and Lorne Park Community Centre. Active families will have plenty to do in this beautiful neighbourhood.

Your kids will have access to some of the best schools in the area, including White Oaks, Lorne Park Public School and Lorne Park Secondary School.

Port Credit

Port Credit has a lot to offer families moving to the Mississauga area. You’ll find everything you need in this family-friendly neighbourhood with access to Lake Ontario, a charming mix of homes, gorgeous parks, fun recreation options, and incredible amenities.

Known as Mississauga’s waterfront community, many properties are close to the shores of Lake Ontario. Homes in the area range from hundred-year-old heritage houses, bungalows, and newly built townhomes and condos along the water. There is something for everyone in Port Credit.

If you head down to the Lakeshore, you’ll find an array of vibrant shops, dining options, and local businesses. A favourite dining spot in Port Credit is Snug Harbour Seafood Bar & Grill, with everything from grilled fish and an Oyster Bar to gourmet pizzas and fish tacos. The Port Credit Memorial Park is a popular spot for family outings, with playgrounds, a splash pad and picnic areas. This neighbourhood has a great sense of community and hosts regular events throughout the year.

Churchill Meadows

Churchill Meadows is a newer Mississauga neighbourhood that caters perfectly to growing families. With modern homes, excellent schools, lush parks, and top-notch recreation facilities, the area has everything your family could want.

Homes in the area are a mix of detached, semi-detached, townhomes, and condos just right for family living. The community was designed to encourage outdoor activity and a sense of community, with open green spaces and the Churchill Meadows Community Centre.
