Fall Decor Trends for 2024

Share This Post:

This season, fall decor is all about warm colours, cozy textures, and natural elements. If you’re ready to incorporate these trends into your home, a few simple updates will help you create that warm and comfy vibe we all crave this time of year. Read on to learn about all the fall decor trends for 2024!

Fall Decor Trends 2024

1. Warm Colours and Jewel Tones

Rather than the classic bright orange, red and yellow colour scheme generally associated with autumn, palettes are trending towards warmer colours this fall. Think a base of warm earth tones accented with shades like plum, terracotta or deep green. The trend continues into wood stains, which are getting warmer and darker for a comfy, cozy feel.

2. Curated Vintage

Carefully chosen antiques and heirlooms add warmth, interest and personality to a space. Fall is the perfect time to tour the antique and vintage shops to find that perfect piece. Look for handmade, quality items from a time when craftsmanship was a priority. If you are new to antique or vintage shopping, start small with a few accent pieces to see how it feels rather than jumping in with a large piece of furniture.

3. Natural Elements

The trend of bringing the outdoors in continues to be strong this fall. Biophilic design aims to create harmony between your home and the outdoors. Whether you make a tablescape of fresh flowers, pinecones, and gourds or bring in a few potted plants to add life to your room, natural elements are an excellent way to add warmth to your home. The trend extends to natural materials in furniture and accent pieces like wood, wool, or cotton, especially those with a distressed, natural feel. Dried grasses and florals are a great way to incorporate this trend for fall.

4. Cottage-core

Another fall decor trends for 2024 is cottage-core. What is this you ask? It’s a relaxed and comfy vibe with vintage pieces, handmade accents, florals, and soft colours. Whimsical and playful, this trend started in 2020 during the pandemic, when we were forced inside and wanted our homes to be warm, cozy places to relax and unwind. The basis of cottage-core is to escape the constant pinging of our phones, slow down, and appreciate the simpler things in life.

5. Layered Textures

Layering textures is the perfect way to add warmth and coziness to your home this fall. Materials with the same texture in a space can look flat and dull, but mixing and matching textiles adds depth and interest. Velvet and boucle are popular choices this fall for fabrics—both in furniture upholstery and in accent items like pillows and throw blankets.

6. Cafe-core

We all love coffee and a trend we’re seeing is Cafe-core. A cute and cozy coffee station is a trend for 2024 to bring into your kitchen this fall. Even if pumpkin spice isn’t your thing, a bar cart set up with flavoured syrups and everything you need for the perfect coffee is a great way to greet fall.

7. Pops of Cheerful Colours

If you want your home to feel brighter, add pops of cheerful colours like orange or turquoise rather than deep, moody hues. To use this trend, minimalism is key—brighter colours can be overwhelming in large quantities. Choose one accent colour and use it sparingly in your space.

8. Mixing metals

Mixing metals is another trend that can bring a more eclectic vibe for fall. Mixing your metals (with a few rules to pull it off) is now okay. Use only two tones (like black and brushed brass), keeping one the primary and one the accent.

9. Serene Scandinavian

This trend is all about sustainable design, minimalism, and artisan elements for a personalized touch that is full of character. To create this serene look, use earthy materials like rough wood, stone and concrete, softened with tone-on-tone fabrics and lots of natural light. The style is all about imperfection and authenticity for a vibe that makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door.

10. Modern Rustic

This trend mixes rustic-chic with industrial for a contemporary design that highlights soft colours and distressed finishes—the best of both worlds. It’s modern and minimalist while still being warm and cozy, which is just what we want when the leaves turn and the temperatures drop. In this trend, raw, natural finishes are replacing perfectly polished varnishes.

How to Bring Trends into your Home this Fall

Trends come and go quickly; not all trends work in every space. When it comes to incorporating Fall Decor trends for 2024, pick and choose what feels right for you, and if you are unsure about a trend, start small to see if it works in your space. The best way to incorporate trends into your home is to nail the basics and build on them. Focus on durability and long-lasting designs for things like flooring, cabinetry, countertops and big pieces of furniture – those can be your investment pieces. Then bring in trends in small accessories – throw pillows, blankets, lamps, decorative items.

Inexpensive Ways to Update for Fall

  • Add a vase of dried flowers, grasses and leaves in plum, brown and sage green.
  • Bring in lots of real or flameless candles- nothing says cozy like snuggling up by candlelight.
  • Throw some textured, chunky knit blankets on the couch.
  • Use distressed accents or baskets made from natural materials (try a wooden or wicker tray on your ottoman or coffee table with a stack of books, a candle and a vase of dried flowers)
  • Create a tablescape of candles, pumpkins, natural placemats and table decor in warm, muted colours.
  • Create lots of layers. Just like we dress in layers for fall, it’s also a great idea to layer fabrics in your home. Pair varying textures in your accents for a cozy feel.
